Berkshire BioBlitz Schedule 2012
Saturday, September 22
9 am: Nature exhibits – Get up close and personal with some live specimens at the Frank Controy Pavillion. There will be live fish, newts, turtles, insects, plants and mushrooms to view and examine.
11 am: BioBlitz begins! – Scientists will begin to inventory insects, plants, fungi, birds, mammals, amphibians, and reptiles at Burbank Park and Onota Lake.
5 pm: Welcoming ceremony at Frank Controy Pavillion. Immediately followed by a spaghetti dinner served by Pittsfield Unico.
6 pm: “Meet the Scientists” – an informal gathering of the natural minds will begin. All ages welcome!
7:00 pm: Make your own natural lantern at Frank Controy Pavillion. Join Dr. Aguie’s in the pavillion and make your take-home lantern.
7:30 to 8:30 pm: Owl Prowl Meet in the north parking lot. Join naturalist Rene Wendell (Trustees of Reservations’ Bartholomew’s Cobble) “on the prowl” and search the park for nocturnal animals with a special focus on owls!
9 to 11:30 pm: Moth Light beside the Pavillion. Get an up-close view of moths and other night-flying insects as they are drawn to a lighted sheet. Mark Mello (Lloyd Center for the Environment) will sort out the species and provide hints on identification.
Sunday, September 23
7:30 to 8:30 am: Bird Walk with Hoffmann Bird Club Meets in north parking lot.
11 am: BioBlitz ends and scientists will turn in their preliminary data to the coordinators.
